Fangs God It’s Friday: Viktor

If you need proof for just how damn good an actor Bill Nighy is, then you need look no further than his performance as the vampire elder Viktor in the film Underworld. You don’t often see an actor show up almost halfway through the film and make a significant impact. The first impression of Viktor leaves the viewer thinking he’s nothing but your typical nobleman, sitting on his throne and sending others to do the work for him. That impression changes soon enough.

Bill Nighy as the vampire ruler Viktor from Underworld

When the time to hunt down and destroy his enemies gets there, Viktor charges into the thick of things to fight. He kicks butt, rips off lycan body parts, and doesn’t bother with taking names. One of the most enjoyable parts of the third Underworld film, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was getting to see Bill Nighy scheme his way through an entire film as Viktor.

While Nighy has been acting for decades, I think the Underworld films put him on the map for a new generation and audience. He went on to perform in tons of things (not that he was a slouch beforehand): in two of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz (possibly my favorite comedy film ever)… He even shows up in one of the biggest tear-inducing, tissue-grabber episodes in Doctor Who history (Vincent and the Doctor).

Bill Nighy, like the vampire he plays, is pretty badass.

The deadliest vampire is the one that got away. The only monster Gidion Keep never expected to face has returned for Gidion's Blood. Rejoin the hunt August 11th!
