Fangs God It’s Friday: Storm

One of the most popular mutants in Marvel Comics is Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm (for you non-comic book types, that would the character played by Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp in the X-Men films). While the films haven’t gone vampire yet, Marvel’s mightiest mutants have faced off against vampires more than once. At one point, Storm even got her fang on with Dracula himself.

The X-Men's Storm (Ororo Munroe) almost turned into a full-fledged vampire by Dracula

Not only did she fall under Dracula’s control, but she almost got turned completely into a vampire by the king bloodsucker in Uncanny X-Men #159, an issue entitled “Night Screams.” Storm comes within one bite of becoming a vampire (Marvel has played a little fast and loose with the rules on how people become vampires, because changing the rules is just how comics roll). She gets far enough gone that she’s got the fangs, the bloodlust, even the aversion to religious objects.

Fortunately, the X-Men provide enough of a “fang-blocker” for Dracula to keep him from getting to home plate with Storm. She turns on him, threatening to kill him (she could totally use her weather manipulation powers to flash fry him with lightning). Dracula gets sent packing, agreeing to release Storm from his control, which is of course a lie, because he returns in a later issue hoping to still turn her and because…well, he’s evil. Duh.
